Frequently
asked questions
Answers to questions we get about UX research services, usability testing, accessibility audits, and how research fits into the design process.
Get in TouchAn audit is expert review — we assess your product against usability principles and your analytics, without recruiting users. It's fast, fixed-price, and good at finding what's obviously broken. Research involves your actual users and answers questions an audit can't: why they abandoned, what they expected instead, what they're doing outside the product entirely. Most teams start with a UX audit because it's cheap enough to say yes to, then run research on whatever it surfaces that nobody can explain.
A UX audit runs about two weeks. A focused discovery sprint, from recruitment to findings, is typically four to six. Usability testing on an existing product is two to three. Longitudinal work — diary studies, multi-market research — runs longer and we'll say so upfront. Recruitment is usually the thing that slows a project down, not the research itself. If your users are hard to reach, tell us early.
Either. We can recruit from your customer base, from panels, or from specialist networks for hard-to-reach groups — clinicians, developers, enterprise buyers. If you have a user list and want us to use it, that's usually faster and produces better data. What we won't do is run a study with the wrong participants because they were easier to find. We'll tell you if the sample won't support the conclusion you need.
A findings report with evidence attached, a prioritised list of issues ranked by severity and effort, and video clips of the moments that matter — because a stakeholder who watches a user fail is more persuaded than one who reads about it. We also run a session walking your team through it.
For synthesis, transcription and pattern-finding across large data sets, yes — it turns a week of tagging into an afternoon. For the research itself, no. AI-generated "synthetic users" tell you what a model predicts a user would say, which is a summary of the internet, not evidence about your product.
